The NEES Project aims to bring together private and public house builders, sustainable architects, architectural schools, environmental engineers, manufacturers and suppliers of ecological building materials, building energy assessors and others concerned with retrofit of existing buildings and the small scale integration of RES in buildings.The aim is an identification, catalouging, pilot demonstration and dissemination of best practise in the retrofit of existing buildings on the basis of natural materials and technologies in all the Programme areas. The technologies will include roof and wall insulation, high-performance window frames, heating and cooling and ventilation technologies, as well as integrated constructed wetlands for water treatment and other forms of waste recycling. The project will develop an integrated framework for the identification and evaluation of natural retrofit and small-scale integrated RES technologies and identify best practise case studies. These will be disseminatied through study visits, practical demonstration events and an on-line portal of natural efficiency technologies. The project will also aim to identify a number of practical pilot projects in different regions that integrate these technologies, and these will be monitored during the project life. The integration of appropriate renewable energy sources will be included in this best practise, but the emphasis will be on low technology and the use of locally made equipment, materials and processes, within a framework of measurably maximising energy efficiency, reducing fossil fuel use, reducing the Carbon consumption of carbon, reducing or reusing waste and maximising water quality.. The project will promote a measurable increase in energy efficiency in all partner regions, based on the promotion and use of natural materials, promoting agricultural diversification, and developing local and marketable skills and products, with a net benefit to the environment and the local economy.
The NEES partnership is aiming to compile a Bid to the Northern Periphery Interreg Programme for September 2010, and is looking for expression of intrest from Local Authorities or solcial housing companies that would want to develop this important them. NEES full Project conditionally apporved by Northern Periphery Programme for March 2011 Start.
Cork Centre for Architectural Education has been informed of the conditional approval of the NEES (Natural Energy Efficiency and Sustainability) Project, presented to the 5th Call of the Programme. The Project is due to start in March 2011, and brings together 13 Partners from Ireland, Greenland, Sweden, Scotland and Northern Ireland, as well as several Associate Partners within the Programme Area. As proposed in the Participatory Project, NEES will investigate resources available within the Region for implementing energy efficiency, primarily within existing dwellings, based on natural, low-impact, renewable materials. NEES will focus on identifying technologies that have a potential for mainstreaming, and explore the potential for agricultural diversification, job and enterprise creation, sharing of expertise and joint development initiatives within the region. NEES - Natural Energy Efficency and Sustainabilty
The NEES Partneship has been awarded Preparatory Project Funding by the Northern Periphery Programme. The purpose of the NEES PPP will be to prepare a comphensive Bid to the NPP Porgramme for a trans-national partnership to promote natural products and processeses aimed at increasing energy efficiency and solar and climatic gain, as well as integrating renewable energy sources into existing homes, in rural and remote regions of the Northern Periphery. The Project will identify key products, processes and retrofit approaches (including design approaches) in order to establish how producers, installers, researchers and users can best benefit, in particularly through co-operation with Universities and research agencies in validating and improving their products. The project is aimed at promoting diversification, skills exchange, local jobs and training in the region, thorugh the development of local SME's and R&D and marketing partnerships. Partners are proposing to present a Bid to the 7th Call in Spring 2011, giving ourselves 6 months to prepare the Bid. We are inviting Expressions of Interest from local authorities, social housing companies and private landlord assosications that might be end users for these technologies into their programmes, as well as associations of growers, producers and installers that wish to develop the partnership. Also, from technical and marketing agecies that have experience in this area, and want to help form a trans-regional network for promotion of this approach. The PP will be co-ordinated by Cork Centre for Architectural Studies based at the University College of Cork, and we are looking for local partnerships in the different regions of the Northern Periphery, which includes South and Western and Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Faroe Islands, and Greenland.
