The Ministry's objective is to create conditions, via the development, implementation and evaluation of the national economic policy, for promoting the competitiveness and a balanced and sustainable development of the Estonian economy. The Ministry's area of government includes the elaboration and implementation of the national economic policy in the areas of industry, trade, energy, housing, building, transport, traffic management, increasing traffic safety and reducing environmental hazardousness of vehicles, informatics, telecommunications, postal services and tourism; coordination of the development of national information systems; technological research and development and innovation; coordination of metrology, standardisation, certification, accreditation, licensing, registers and industrial property rights, competition surveillance, consumer protection, export promotion and commercial defence instrument; issues related to regional development of entrepreneurship and investments; administration of minimum stocks of liquid fuel; and preparing the respective draft acts
