The development of heating in France mainly occured after 1950. Today, they appear as a way to use some massive renewables such as biomass and geothermal. The 450 heating networks identified in France serve approximately 2.1 million equivalent dwellings, of which 2 / 3 in the residential sector. Present in dense urban areas, heating networks use more than 70% fossil fuels. To reduce their environmental impact, the number of dwellings connected to heating networks will be tripled by 2020 and the share of renewable energy increased to 75%
