Software for Building Energy Performance

Create favourable conditions for the development of pan-European software instead of patchwork of national methods. Dissemination of good practice, information and the identification of common actions.
This community deals with the development of pan-European software for building energy performance linked to the Energy Performance of Building Directive (EPBD). Reliable calculation tools are needed to predict with a reasonable accuracy the performances of buildings to both satisfy minimum performance requirements and to provide energy rating certificate. Despite of the availability of European Standards, developed to harmonize national transposition, mainly national software tools are used to comply with national transpositions of the EPBD. As a result, there is a patchwork of overlapping national methods, frameworks and conventions. The objective of this community is to favors the development of software for the European Market that can be used within national regulatory systems (e.g. compliance with the energy performance requirement, calculate energy performance certificates) and be linked to already existing design tools. The benefits of this action will be the dissemination of good practice and know-how, the circulation of products and services, the exchange of experiences. The missions of this community are to inform about the legal situation and the use of software in Europe, to exchange views and opinions and to identify common actions to push forward the development and application of a European energy calculation.Even passive house standard is technically fully mature and in some regions in Europe already obligatory standard for new buildings, there are still myths and legends about apparently non functionalties and exorbitant costs of passive houses. Those myths and legends, which do no more reflect the current situation, shall be overcome by intensive information activities as excursions, International Passive House Days (open passive houses), special seminars for decision makers as well as an International data base, documenting the growing share of passive house buildings.
