The objective of the project is translated into three aims:
I. Providing easy to understand, objective and accurate information about RES when incorporated in a specific dwelling or building
II. Enabling our large membership to provide more accurate information of RES return on investment for a given specific scenario (as well as reduced cost for preparation work – i.e. estimations of installation requirements)
III. Enable targeted information or educational campaigns about RES benefits for homeowners or other end-users (i.e. target consumers that would be most likely to benefit due to the nature and location of their property)
It is anticipated that EAGLE will be able to demonstrate these unique features:
- Ability to assess suitability (in real-time) of roof-space for solar thermal/solar PV systems based on high resolution aerial photography, LIDAR (Light Detection And Ranging or laser radar) and Cadaster (public records of land and ownership used for tax purposes) data (location, orientation, slope, shading, space) as well as whether or not a property has access to land required for ground source heat pumps
- Ability to calculate (with high degree of accuracy) the anticipated return on investment of relevant renewable energy technology based on actual local energy tariffs (including feed in tariffs), estimated energy demand, heating type, available subsidies, average cost of specific solar or heat pump technologies, and estimated (or actual) household composition and existing energy infrastructure.
- Ability to couple the above with an accurate assessment of property thermal losses, based on thermal imaging data. This will enable assessment of thermal insulation and will advice whether or not improvements can be made and at what return on investment.
The work programme is currently visible and links to relevent local information will be added as the project progresses.
