Within the Covenant of Mayors Investment Forum, the Berliner Energieagentur together with the European Commission award the prizes, in three different categories, to outstanding European projects and institutions in the field of energy services. Winners were municipalities, institutions and companies from Croatia, Germany, Italy, Romania and Slovenia.

The Potenza pilot site is aimed at demonstrating the achievable advantages (primary energy, peak shaving, reduction of energy bills) by the Municipality in two different sites: a swimming pool, where a 165 kW CHP is able to provide about 95 % and 85 % of the required thermal energy and electricity, respectively, and also to feed, through the existing distribution network, about 70 % of the electricity consumed by an electric escalator, having an installed power of 192 kW and being used to transport people from the outskirts to the city centre.

The project PEGASUS was successfully launched in February 2017 and it will last until the end of July 2019. The project brings together 10 project partners from 9 countries: Italy, Greece, Cyprus, Slovenia, France, Spain, Malta, Croatia and Belgium.

ZERO-PLUS is a Project focusing on achieving near Zero and positive energy settlements in Europe using Advanced Energy Technology. Its goal is to provide the market with an innovative, yet readily implementable system for Near Zero Energy (NZE) residential neighborhoods that will significantly reduce their costs. The project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme.

The ENERFUND tool aims to scale up investments in deep renovation of buildings across Europe. Funded by the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 programme, it provides key stakeholders such as financing institutions, energy service companies and local authorities, with sound and up-to-date information regarding the energy efficiency of the EU’s building stock.

In recent years energy efficiency of the building stock has been recognised as a significant route to contribute towards meeting the European Union’s energy targets, by reducing energy demand and associated greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Furthermore, improvements in energy efficiency across the built stock can provide energy security by lessening the reliance on external suppliers and increases energy affordability, which has numerous social benefits.

Bringing nature back into cities can help fight global warming.   Fighting climate change is the challenge of the century. The last UN Environment Emissions Gap Report warned that, in order to ensure global warming stays below 2°C, efforts should be tripled, and if we want to stay below 1.5°C, they should be increased around five times.
