SSPCR 2019 aims to answer the question on how can we maximize the impact of academic research, the scaling-up and replicability opportunities of pilot projects, and the added value of local bottom-up initiatives, in relation to complex challenges posed by the smart city/region approach?   Therefore, building projects that wish to put their work in a larger (urban or regional scale) will find in this conference the right audience.

Five Eu funded projects (TripleA­reno, iBROAD, HAPPEN, ALDREN, Fit­to­NZEB) collaborating on integrated tools and methods for deep retrofitting, looked at key challenges that need to be surpassed for a breakthrough in building energy improvement, propose specific solutions, and highlight some good reasons for optimism.   Check the YouTube link below!

National University of Singapore’s (NUS) School of Design and Environment (SDE) building, the SDE4, certainly stands out for its unique structure.   SDE4 is NUS's foremost net-zero building, and the first of its kind in Singapore to be built from scratch. SDE4 gets its power through a "solar farm" on its roof which comprises over 1,200 solar photovoltaic panels and boasts a range of innovative building strategies that focus on improving the well-being of its users.

Today, the European Commission has published a series of recommendations on the modernisation of buildings, specifying how Member States should implement the revised building modernisation aspects of the Energy performance of buildings directive (EPBD) 2018/844 to national law.

Answering the need of clarification of the Member States, the EU commission released a document with the recommendation for implementing the amended EPBD into national operative laws.   Full transposition and effective implementation of the amended EPBD is fundamental to support the achievement of 2030 energy efficiency targets and to put the Union on track for the full decarbonisation of national building stocks by 2050.
