The European Commission proposed on 5 June 2019 a budget worth €168.3 billion for the bloc in 2020, aimed at promoting a more competitive European economy and solidarity and security in the EU. This is the last budget under the 2014-2020 fiscal period and put climate change at the top of the agenda.

The topic of manipulated testing results, or “circumvention” is currently exposed to the highest attention of the public and media, not only for the emission of cars (“dieselgate”) but also with regard to other EU legislation. For this reason the project “ANTICSS – Anti-Circumvention of Standards for better market Surveillance” has been funded by European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme.

    With more than 80% of the heat delivered to buildings coming from obsolete, inefficient and polluting boilers, decarbonising this sector is crucial. A steep increase in the current 20% share of renewables in heating and cooling is required, together with improving the efficiencies of our heating and cooling systems, in order to achieve the Paris Agreement goals.
