It aimed to identify and engage 15-20 innovative organisations working in the field of fuel poverty and energy sustainability in five European countries: Germany, Greece, Italy, Portugal, and Spain. More specifically, the programme seeked for organisations and projects working in one or more of the categories which follow:

Energy prices in 2017 - Household energy prices in the EU down compared with 2016 - -0.5% for electricity and -6.3% for gas     Brussels, 29 November 2017 In the European Union (EU), household electricity prices slightly decreased (-0.5%) on average between the first half of 2016 and the first half of 2017 to stand at €20.4 per 100 kWh. Across the EU Member States, household electricity prices in the first half of 2017 ranged from below €10 per 100 kWh in Bulgaria to more than €30 per 100 kWh in Denmark and Germany.

A binding target to reduce energy consumption by 40% by 2030 at EU level was agreed by the European Parliament's Industry, Research and Energy Committee (ITRE) on Tuesday 28 November 2017. Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) wanted to be more ambitious than the EU Commission, which had proposed a 30% reduction.

Information on construction products is heavily regulated at European level by Regulation EC 305/2011 (Construction Products Regulation or CPR). Manufacturers are obliged by this law to declare the performance of most construction products according to the relevant harmonised standards. The CPR sets the framework for the common technical language which is detailed by the relevant harmonised product standard, until now in a written format. The common technical language of the harmonised standards does not yet include digitalisation.

The Horizon 2020 funded project Net-UBIEP (Network for Using BIM to Increase the Energy Buildings Performance) aims at increasing energy performance of buildings by wide spreading and strengthening the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM), during the life cycle of the building. The use of BIM will allow to simulate the energy performance of the building using different materials and components, both to be used in the building design and/or in building design refurbishment.

The Third Report on the State of the Energy Union was published on 24 November, 2017. This report looks at progress made since the last state of the energy union in February 2017 and assesses challenges to be addressed. The EU is advancing towards its 2020 and 2030 energy and climate targets. It also continues to build an Energy Union with secure, affordable and climate-friendly energy. More work will be needed to collectively meet these objectives.
