How to use excess heat from the electricity generation of remote biogas power stations? Can the excess heat contribute to the climate protection? The German Ministry of the Environment is supporting a pilot project in the rural district Landsberg am Lech that develops a mobile heat supply system based on excess heat. The heat of the biogas power stations is distributed in a flexible way to different users, including a retirement home and a high school. Due to the distance between the station and possible users, a heating network would be uneconomical.

The German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB) has launched an internet platform, with information on international building exhibitions (IBA). The initiative looks back on more than 100 years of history of innovative architecture and urban development including world-known examples such as Stuttgart’s Weißenhof settlement (1927), the Hansaviertel in Berlin (1957) and the Zeche Zollverein Emscher Park in the Ruhr district (1999).

A new scheme for educational buildings that promotes the transition to plus energy buildings was announced by the German Federal Building Minister, Barbara Hendricks, at the inaugural speech of "BAU 2015" in Munich. This programme will support building owners to build or retrofit educational buildings such as schools or kindergartens that reach a plus energy performance level. These proposed  buildings shall annually generate more primary and final energy than they consume.
