dear all,

At the IEE-CENSE website you will now find a summary of the main recommendations on a 2nd generation of CEN standards to support the EPBD.

The IEE CENSE project (2007-2010) supports the EU Member States (MS) and other target groups. The aim is to achieve better awareness and more effective use of the European (CEN) standards that are related to the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD).

EUSEW 2010: Focus on ... How to improve use of CEN standards in the implementation of EPBD

The CENSE project has just been completed and the present workshop will present the main results, in particular the packages with information on the set of CEN standards to support the EPBD and a series of recommendations regarding a second generation of these standards. This should also be seen in relation to the recently decided revision (recast) of the EPBD. The existing standards are being used very differently in the EU member states. Some have implemented them fully, most have used some of the standards or excerpts of the standards and some others are not using the standards at all.

Are national annexes always required to apply EN ISO 13790?

Choices have to be made at the national level. In several countries this is or will be done, at least for the time being, in a practical way, by copying the relevant parts of EN ISO 13790 as national standard, adding further specifications. (See CENSE Information Paper P90 on the practical use of CEN standards which can also be downloaded from the BUILD UP Portal).

How can the CEN-standards make reference to the set of European standards to support the EPBD?

If an ISO (International Organization for Standardization) standard is also an EN ISO standard, then it is a European standard just like any other EN (European) standard. As illustrated in several CENSE Information Papers, e.g. P92 or P94, a CEN standard to support the EPBD is one of a series of standards, which are mutually related and serve particular European (EPBD) needs; in particular: which are meant to be applied in the context of national building regulations.
