The PROSPECT learning programme enables peer-to-peer learning in regional and local authorities in order to finance and implement their sustainable energy and climate action plans. The programme builds upon successful financing schemes implemented in cities and regions in the European Union.   The IEA estimates that by 2050 energy demand from space cooling will triple. Entering into force in 2019, the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol seeks to reduce the global warming impacts of air conditioners and refrigerators through reducing the use of refrigerants with strong global warming effects. Such a shift in refrigerant offers a great opportunity for energy efficiency improvements during appliance re-engineering.

Europe is committed to leading the fight against climate change. To underline its leadership, the Commission presented a comprehensive set of 10 transformative initiatives, the Action Plan for the Planet, at the inaugural One Planet Summit in Paris last December. In New York today, Vice-Presidents Maroš Šefčovič and Valdis Dombrovskis and Commissioner Neven Mimica will update Heads of State and Government, businesses leaders and civil society on the main achievements to date under these initiatives in support of climate action.

  Following the guidelines of the measures contained in the Clean Energy for All Europeans package, presented at the end of 2016 by the European Commission, the 2017 National Energy Strategy (NES) confirms the key role of energy efficiency in Italian energy transition path. The NES aims to strengthen energy efficiency policies by facilitating the measures that have the best cost-effectiveness ratio in order to achieve 30% energy savings by 2030 compared to the expected consumption at that date.

  The objective of modeling is to support policy-makers so that they can develop a better sense of what is possible now, what shall be done in the future and help them take better-informed decisions. This piece of work is intended as a thought starter, not as an exhaustive review of the topic. The work was mostly based on interviewing members of some of the key modeling teams in Europe as well as users of modeling (policy-makers and NGOs). Following up on these interviews, a survey was built to capture further input.

The conference will take place in Ljubljana (Slovenia) the 18th and 19th of October. It will host the partners of all Interreg MED Modular Projects from two Thematic Communities: Efficient Buildings Community and Renewable Energy Community.

The Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) launched The Carbon-Free Regions Handbook: An Action Guide for States, Provinces, and Regional Governments in collaboration with The Climate Group, as secretariat to the Under2 Coalition. Designed to place states and regions on an actionable path towards low-carbon economies, the handbook includes significant contributions from the Under2 Coalition and features many of the successful policies being implemented by the governments in the coalition.
