"Die energetische Gebäudesanierung gehört zu den zentralen Stellschrauben der Energiewende. Der Gebäudebereich allein ist in Deutschland verantwortlich für rund 35 Prozent des Energieverbrauchs und für 30 Prozent der energiebedingten CO2-Emissionen. Ein besonderer Fokus der energetischen Sanierung liegt dabei auf privaten Wohnhäusern, die knapp zwei Drittel des Gebäudebestandes ausmachen. Es gibt in Deutschland rund 14 Millionen Ein- und Zweifamilienhäuser und etwa vier Millionen Mehrfamilienhäuser.

Dämmstoffe sind aus dem Baualltag nicht mehr wegzudenken. Ihre Einsatzgebiete reichen von der Fassadendämmung bis zu Spezialanwendungen in der Versorgungstechnik. Nichts desto trotz wird gegenüber Dämmmaßnahmen vermehrt öffentliche Kritik laut, die den Anschein hat, dass sie sich hauptsächlich auf Fassadendämmung mit Wärmedämmverbundsystemen auf Polystyrolbasis konzentriert. Die vorliegende Analyse setzt sich deshalb aus Sicht der Bauforschung mit dieser Kritik auseinander. Sie betrachtet diejenigen Themen, die immer wieder diskutiert werden: Sind Dämmmaßnahmen wirtschaftlich?

How to use excess heat from the electricity generation of remote biogas power stations? Can the excess heat contribute to the climate protection? The German Ministry of the Environment is supporting a pilot project in the rural district Landsberg am Lech that develops a mobile heat supply system based on excess heat. The heat of the biogas power stations is distributed in a flexible way to different users, including a retirement home and a high school. Due to the distance between the station and possible users, a heating network would be uneconomical.

Researchers at the MEET Battery Research Centre at Münster University have developed a new energy storage system based on dual-ion battery technology. Its long service life is promising for stationary applications. The focus of the development was on cost-effective battery systems. The key difference to lithium-ion batteries is the purpose of the electrolyte. Chemist Dr. Tobias Placke from MEET explains further that, “In the lithium cell, it serves only as a transport medium for lithium ions between both electrolytes. In the dual-ion cell, however, it is an active material.”

One of the pilot buildings of the Solar Decathlon 2014 will now be rebuilt on the university campus Berlin Charlottenburg. The so-called “Rooftop” building, originally designed as a net energy plus residential building, will now be modified to be used as a seminar room and laboratory. Due to additional measurement technology, the students can learn about energy monitoring with a real building as example.
