Understanding the importance and triggering the demand for building commissioning

Commissioning makes sure energy efficiency investments maintain their optimal factory-intended operational states, regularly testing their performances. It was introduced in the late 1980s however, despite proven studies, global awareness and industry adoption remains low. (Schneider Electrics, 2016)

First passive house water park saves heat and electricity

The energy concept of the new water park in Bamberg includes a very high performance building envelope regarding both thermal insulation level and building airtightness level. This allows to have high relative humidity values (up to 64%) without causing condensation. The user-dependent ventilation is divided into zones and realised by 11 different mechanical ventilation systems. The heat demand is covered by a biomass combined heat and power unit and three gas condensing boilers.

Frankfurt to build world’s first hospital to the Passive House Standard

Rubber boots and spades stood ready for a special premiere: In July 2016, construction works began on the world's first Passive House hospital in the Höchst district of Frankfurt. The previous clinic will be replaced by a new Passive House building with ten operating theatres and 666 beds planned over six floors. The Passive House Institute has provided comprehensive support throughout the planning phase and will continue to do so during the building’s construction.

Climamed 2017 Conference: “Historical buildings retrofit in the Mediterranean area”

SCOPE AND OBJECTIVES OF THE CONFERENCE

Energy Retrofit is an extremely interesting challenge for engineers, architects, designers. If we focus our attention on historical buildings the challenge is formidable. On the Mediterranean basin, there are many countries whose historical and cultural heritage is rich, countries where the challenge posed by energy retrofitting is stimulating and, to some extent, necessary.
