The system is based on concentrated solar power technology, in which parabola-shaped troughs concentrate the sun's rays on to a receiver that converts the solar energy into heat. A tracking mechanism allows these devices to follow the sun as it moves across the sky. Currently, concentrated solar power technologies are deployed in large plants where they generate enough power for thousands of homes. However, recent technological advances mean that it is now possible to develop small-scale systems that can be fitted to individual buildings.

As part of the project which has been in planning for 15 years now, the Yorkshire Dales Sailing Club installed 24 m² of TiSUN’s large flat FI collectors on the roof of their store room. The roof faces directly south so will benefit from solar radiation all day.

Each model building will represent a certain construction period of the country and a specific building size. The key outcome of the project will be an interactive webtool that allows using the Building Typology for different applications as e. g.  energy advice, portfolio assessment, assessment of the building stock of a country and comparison of the building stocks between different countries. This document provides a presentation of this project.
