We spend 90% of our life indoors in buildings, so the quality of the indoor environment has a major impact on our health, well-being, and productivity. The health, comfort and well-being of building occupants are basic requirements and a human right, therefore both policy makers and the building industry have to take their role in ensuring healthy and comfortable living conditions for people.

On the other hand, buildings account for 40% of the total energy consumption of Europe, and it is our obligation to make the European building stock more sustainable and energy efficient to achieve the set EU and global climate goals. The Clean energy for all Europeans package, and especially the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive are key policy instruments to deliver high energy performing buildings. However, energy efficiency mustn’t deteriorate the indoor environment quality in our buildings, and policy makers must handle energy performance improvement in a comprehensive way by considering deep energy renovation as an opportunity to improve also the “health performance” of buildings.

This webinar aims at showing evidence why indoor environment quality is so important in buildings, and detail how both the energy and the health performance of buildings can and must go hand in hand. The speakers present key recommendations to promote, and initiatives helping to deliver healthy Nearly Zero-Energy Buildings (NZEBs).
