Building the Future is an ambitious energy efficiency programme that foresees over 3 million energy saving interventions in Greek residential and commercial buildings by 2020. The programme was launched on April 9, 2012 and is planned to be completed in year 2020.
The programme is a partnership between the public and private sector, aiming to provide citizens that wish to refurbish their buildings, with certified, high-standard products at better prices than current market prices.
Eligible interventions for residential buildings are:
- windows and frames;
- solar thermal systems;
- cool roofs;
- roof and wall insulation;
- heating systems.
For commercial buildings, eligible interventions are:
- glazing systems;
- insulation;
- cooling/heating/ventilation;
- lighting systems;
- Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS).

The Building the Future programme is implemented at three (3) levels, each of which operates as a standalone programme:
Level 1: Large scale interventions
Advanced and mature technology for the Greek building stock.
Level 2: Demonstration actions
Demonstration of innovative systems and products in large-scale projects – Zero energy buildings.
Level 3: Research and innovation
Industrial and applied research for the development of innovative products of high energy and environmental performance and quality.
