  Ventilative cooling reduces overheating, improves summer comfort and decreases cooling loads. It is therefore one of the most efficient ways to improve summer comfort. Conditions on site, thermal inertia, solar control and other constraints have an impact on the choice of the system and its design. The overall performance is linked to good sizing, design, correct usage of thermal storage, and last but not least a correct control, commissioning and maintenance.

Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) Residential Diagnostics Database (ResDB) contains blower door measurements and other diagnostic test results of homes in United States. Of these, approximately 134,000 single-family detached homes have sufficient information for the analysis of air leakage in relation to a number of housing characteristics.

The major roles of the Air Infiltration and Ventilation Centre (AIVC) are to disseminate information and to facilitate international collaborative projects in the fields of ventilation and airtightness. Seven projects have just been approved for the 2017-2021 operating period at our the last AIVC board meeting: Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) metrics, ventilation requirements, airtightness testing, and performance of fans, residential cooker hoods, and heat recovery, are key issues addressed in these projects.
