Ventilative cooling refers to the use of natural or mechanical ventilation strategies to cool indoor spaces, and thereby both improve thermal comfort and reduce space cooling energy use which may be critical to achieve new or renovated NZEB. The most common technique is the use of increased ventilation airflow rates and night ventilation but other technologies may be considered as well.   This community will focus on research issues but also on practical implementation, quality issues, opportunities and barriers.

Furthermore, the text lacks ambition with regards to developments of synergies and opportunities at the local level. When implementing the Directive, a strong focus on the actual goal – to reduce Europe’s consumption of primary energy – will be needed to organize the energy transition at the local level in terms of future proof and cost-effective energy supply and consumption for the benefit of all citizens.
