EPC - Energy Performance Contracting

A multitude of definitions exist for common terms used in the energy efficiency services industry. In order to demonstrate some commonalities as well as some sources of conflict or confusion among the various definitions, several are provided in annex1 for the following terms: “energy performance contracting,” “energy contracting,” “energy supply contracting,” “energy services company.”The definitions are from various sources, including: Universities, Local Energy Agencies, International Energy Agency, ESCO associations, ESCO industry, World Energy Council, EU Commission.

The project will guarantee 40% reduction in real energy consumption and will cut greenhouse gas emissions by a factor of 4. Worth 9 million euros (4 million euros of energy renovation works and 5 million euros of internal renovation of the accommodation), the project qualifies for optimised funding through State financial mechanisms to aid social housing, specifically the decree concerning the share-out of energy savings. Works will be launched early in 2011, and are scheduled to last 24 months.

The museum’s building complex consists of two different types of architecture.  Part of the complex was designed by world-renowned architect Daniel Libeskind and the other section of the complex consists of a Baroque building, built in 1735. The Jewish Museum presented unique challenges due to its differing architecture and the need to preserve the integrity of the complex’s building designs. Energy savings in the complex will be achieved through partial renovation of the building automation system and use of innovative LED lighting.

Assessing and guaranteeing green value in real estate Real estate experts are still reluctant to integrate the green value of buildings, whether office or residential buildings. Yet, taking into account green value in financial simulations is based on sound analyses and some players begin to integrate it in their profitability calculations. But, to make this green value concrete, it will be necessary to guarantee the energy, health and environmental performance of buildings, as well as to revise the contractual relationships between players.

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, announced last year that RE:FIT's panel of pre-selected energy services companies (ESCos) would be made available to all public sector organisations in London - and the UK. In signing up, organisations cut red tape and the duplication of work, saving the time and money involved in finding a suitable supplier.
