Energy for heating and cooling from renewable sources

In 2017, renewable energy accounted for 19.5 % of the total energy used for heating and cooling in the European Union. This is a significant increase from 10.4 % in 2004. Increases in industrial sectors, services and households contributed to this growth. Aerothermal, geothermal and hydrothermal heat energy captured by heat pumps was also taken into account if reported by countries.

Eurostat clarifies how to record energy performance contracts in national accounts

Energy performance contracts in the public sector offer a practical solution to make public buildings and other public infrastructures more energy efficient, as the initial investment can be covered by a private partner and repaid by guaranteed energy savings. However, frequently this type of contract simultaneously contains elements of a rental, service, lease, purchase or loan agreement, making its recording complex.
