On 26 September 2015, new ecodesign and energy labelling measures introduced by the European Union came into force. A new energy label will inform consumers about the energy efficiency of heating products, while minimum efficiency standards will be required by ecodesign. These measures will help consumers save more energy –and money– while heating their homes or using domestic hot water. The new measures concern: boilers;heat pumps;water heaters.

In order to increase the renewable energy share of the heating energy used in Germany, the market incentive programme for renewable energy sources for heating was revised, updated and improved. It now includes incentives for building owners, industry and municipalities in respect to solar thermal systems, biomass heating systems, heat pumps, deep geothermal plants and local district heating systems. Financial support can be given in two ways: subsidies for smaller systems and loans, at reduced rates, for bigger systems.
