Thirteen countries from the Asia-Pacific, Europe, North America and Africa have joined together under the forum of 4E to share information and transfer experience in order to support good policy development in the field of energy efficient appliances and equipment.They recognise the huge benefits for energy security, economic development and greehouse gas abatement from maximising the use of energy efficiency to meet future energy demand.

The jury for the 2012 Energy Efficiency Innovator Awards has selected the International Energy Agency’s Building Energy Efficiency Policies (BEEP) database as the winner in its “Projects” category. The prize will be bestowed to Dr Yamina SAHEB at the Energy Efficiency Innovator Awards Ceremony in Monaco on November 9th, 2012 .

South Africa has been identified as a country where there is great potential for solar energy due to optimal radiation patterns. The aim of this roadmap is to plot a clear pathway assessing the steps that South Africa should take to ramp up its use of this renewable energy source. The target is for 42% of new electricity generation capacity in South Africa to come from renewable sources – excluding hydropower – by 2030.
