Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies (EDGE) is a green building certification system for emerging markets. EDGE, an innovation of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) -a member of the World Bank Group- makes it faster, easier and more affordable than ever before to build and brand green in 125 emerging markets.
EDGE was created to respond to the need for a measurable solution to prove the financial case for building green and help jumpstart the proliferation of green buildings. EDGE includes complimentary software to empower building professionals to quickly and easily determine the most cost-effective ways to build green, based on occupant behavior, building type, and the local climate.
EDGE creates intersections among market players to deepen the understanding that everyone wins financially by building green. Through bringing together those who design, develop, finance, incentivise and live and work in green buildings, EDGE unlocks collaboration and provides a new paradigm for the future.
The free EDGE software offers a measurable way to cut back on the resource intensity of new buildings, empowering stakeholders to determine the most cost-effective options for a building’s resource-efficient design. Thus, a minimum of 20% less energy, water and embodied energy in materials can be earned, and the project meets the EDGE standard.
EDGE calculates the utility savings and reduced carbon footprint of your green building against a base case. For non-residential buildings, you can see how much extra it costs to build green – and how short a time it takes to earn back the money through operational savings. By entering as much of the building’s information as possible into the EDGE software, and choosing systems and solutions, savings grow.
