The European Commission has launched a new open data platform offering an invaluable window onto the performance of EU Cohesion Policy.
The platform provides information about the results achieved in each Member State, based on the reports submitted to the Commission by national authorities. It shows how the funding is distributed between countries, categories of regions, the different funds and the breakdown by thematic objective. The platform includes a series of interactive maps with data on the socio-economic context and the specific challenges faced by European regions, based on the figures from the Commission's Sixth Report on Economic, Social and Territorial Cohesion.
The EU Cohesion Policy open data platform aims to provide an interactive experience and to promote engagement. Users can explore the data using a variety of maps and charts, create their own visualisations, comment and discuss the data presented on the platform and provide feedback. They can share datasets via social media, embed graphs and charts on their own blogs or websites. The platform also offers users the possibility to subscribe to updates when fresh data are uploaded
This new initiative by the Commission to provide more data about EU Cohesion Policy in open and accessible formats is designed to support the reinforced focus on results that underpins the reform of the policy for the 2014-2020 funding period. The platform complements the requirement that all Member States provide information about the beneficiaries of EU Cohesion Policy funding through national websites or web portals. It is intended to increase transparency, to boost the performance of Operational Programmes and to explain how EU investments are making a difference.
