Financial incentives for efficiency improvements in buildings are much more cost-effective than other non-traded carbon abatement measures, according to a new report from the European Alliance of Companies for Energy Efficiency in Buildings (EuroACE). The alliance estimates costs at about €20-25 per tonne of CO2 emission abated. The lack of appropriate financial mechanisms is often cited as one of the barriers to increased energy efficiency renovations in Europe’s buildings.
