On January 1 2016, Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy started a new energy efficiency incentive programme to support the modernisation of heating and ventilation systems in homes. The programme, offering a total of € 165 million per year, creates a stimulus for innovation and investment in the energy transition in household heating. It will run for 3 years and is offered in the form of low-interest loans and interest subsidies.
On the heating side subsidies are available for the installation of particularly efficient heating systems, including measures to optimise the heating system as a whole (including radiators and pipes). This shall promote a change to more efficient gas-based heating systems or systems based on renewables. On the ventilation side the programme is combined with upgrading the building envelope and shall help to prevent mould problems and improve the indoor climate.
