The German study "Development of ICT-related electricity demand in Germany" has analysed the electricity demand of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). The study, commissioned by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy presents findings on the developments until 2025 and shows where energy efficiency has increased and where improvements are still necessary.
The electricity consumption of ICTs in Germany has decreased by around 15% over the last five years (2010-2015). This downward trend is attributed to technological progress and energy efficiency improvements fostered by means of consumer information and the setting of standards in the context of the European energy label and the Ecodesign Directive.
