About this Webinar

The ‘European Green Deal’ Communication presented in December 2019 calls upon the EU and the Member States to engage in a ‘renovation wave’ of public and private buildings. A key enabler of such a renovation wave will be the skills of professionals involved in the entire building value chain. In the last decade, the EU BUILD UP Skills initiative has been helping to increase the number of skilled professionals across Europe, but what next in face of an increased rate of building renovation?

  • This webinar will discuss the importance of education and training to achieve high energy performing buildings, and in particular in the context of large-scale renovation interventions. How do we get more skilled workers involved in renovations? Are building professionals prepared for nearly zero-energy buildings and for the modernisation of the building stock in the light of technological developments and smart solutions?  How to convince home and building owners to rely more on skilled professionals? How do these professionals get recognised by the market? These are some of the questions that will be explored in the presence of the European Commission.
  • We will also take stock of ongoing efforts made to upskill building professionals towards energy efficiency and sustainability as a whole. Examples of tools supported through the BUILD UP skills initiative will be presented and discussed, in particular the Advisor app, as well as the Open training platform developed in the frame of the PROF-TRAC project.
  • Finally, a public consultation on the future of the BUILD UP Skills initiative will be presented, with a view to collect stakeholders’ ideas on priority areas under the next funding programmes.

About BUILD UP Skills:

BUILD UP Skills is a strategic initiative the main goal of which is to increase the number of skilled building professionals across Europe to deliver building renovations offering high-energy performance as well as new nearly zero-energy buildings.

Since 2011, BUILD UP Skills has been funding both national and transnational projects. A recent focus has been on digital skills supporting the energy transition of the building stock and measures increasing demand for skilled professionals.

The main target groups are professionals of the building value chain (e.g. on-site workers, craftspeople, architects, engineers, building managers etc.), construction companies and SMEs, training providers, building owners and tenants, building managers as well as public authorities.
