This guide, released by the NHBC Foundation, aims to help home buyers understand ventilation, solar energy systems, heat pumps and heating controls. More specifically, the document provides details on what the particular system does, how it works, and its main benefits; each system is clearly illustrated and details are provided on efficient operation and maintenance.

The guide is divided into four parts covering:

  • natural ventilation, mechanical extract ventilation (MEV) and mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR);
  • solar photovoltaic (PV) and solar hot water (solar thermal) systems;
  • air source heat pumps (ASHPs) and Ground source heat pumps (GSHPs);
  • single zone heating controls and multiple zone heating controls.

Besides, the document’s intended use for home buyers, the material available may used by house builders and housing providers to promote the correct operation and maintenance of these systems.
