Vidrio de control solar para una mayor eficiencia energética

This brochure presents the main findings of a study conducted by the Dutch scientific research institute TNO on the potential impact of Solar Control Glass on energy and CO2 savings in Europe. This study shows that between 15 and 85 million tonnes of CO2 emissions (depending on 4 possible scenarios) could be avoided annually by the year 2020 if solar control glass was used optimally. These potentials savings represent between 5 and 25% of the targeted 300 million tonnes of CO2 to be saved from buildings by 2020.

Solar control glass:
- Allows sunlight to pass through a window or façade thus keeping the indoor space bright
- Saves huge amount of energy by reducing and sometimes eliminating the need for air-conditioning
- Reduces energy consumption required to cool down a building
- Reduces energy related CO2 emissions

The brochure presents the technology of solar control glass, its potential benefits based on 4 possible future scenarios regarding important variables and notably the use of air-conditioning.  Energy savings, CO2 reduction and contribution to total CO2 reduction stemming from the use of solar control glass are quantified and presented country by country and at EU level. This research underlines the need for concerted policy actions at both EU and national levels to step-up the use of energy-efficient glass technologies.
