The amended Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) contains a vision for 2050 for the buildings stock in the EU – it will have to be highly energy efficient and decarbonised, reaching cost-effective nearly zero energy levels.  As a result, it is time for action and the Member States will need to be armed with all the right tools and resources to achieve this challenging and necessary vision.

EIT Climate-KIC’ Building Technologies Accelerator (BTA), Waterweg Wonen Housing Cooperation, BIK bouw, Provincie Utrecht, TU Delft, TU Munchen, Sto Isoned, Itho Daalderop and Kingspan work together to realize a unique deep retrofit project in Vlaardingen, the Netherlands. As a result of this pilot, 12 homes have been transformed into Zero Energy Buildings.

The second-year action Training School will be taking place in Málaga, Spain, on 15-19th October 2018. This School will bring together experience and high-level trainers and trainees to work in the digital implementation of Regenerative Sustainable Design principles in the transformation of existing sites. Via the use of freeware digital parametric modelling, the challenges are to improve outdoor microclimate qualities and the indoor wellbeing, operating a transformation that responds to the criteria of Circular Economy.

Germany has set a new record for renewable power production during the first six months of 2018. 113 terawatt hours of electricity was generated by all renewable technologies, mainly consisting of biomass, wind and solar energy, and equivalent to 41.5 percent of all power. This is a 4 percent increase on last year’s figure of 37.6 percent. The data comes from the German think tank Fraunhofer ISE, which runs the Energy Charts website, providing hourly tracking of the country’s energy supply.

Since 2016 EuroAccess has been a central online information point on EU funding opportunities in the Danube region. Over the time it has proven to be a success, therefore, a decision to extend the website to all four EU macro-regional strategies – the EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region, the EU Strategy for the Alpine Region, the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region and the EU Strategy for the Danube Region – has been taken. The updated online platform, covering all four EU macro-regional strategies, was launched on 25th June 2018.
