The major Conference themes will examine cities´ future facing the climate
challenge, on urban strategies to promote clean energy and clean
transportation, and mechanisms to decouple urban growth from CO2
emissions. In addition, there will also be discussions on common urban
planning adaptation strategies, such as consideration of climate change in
settlement planning and waterfront development. An important backbone to
the Conference also includes the economic crisis, and how to best finance
reduction measures.

In the run-up to the UN Climate Summit in December the Hanseatic City of
Hamburg and the Covenant of Mayors invite cities, experts, NGOs and city
networks as well as business associations to the "Hamburg City Climate
Conference '09 - First Annual Conference of the Covenant of Mayors" from
16 to 18 November 2009 in Hamburg.
