Long-term building renovation strategies will be key to supporting the decarbonisation of the EU building stock while National Energy and Climate Plans (NECPs) outline measures contributing to reaching these targets. What does this mean for research and innovation in the building renovation sector? Will this new framework be able to mobilise investments to drive innovation in urban retrofit, smart technologies and skills?

The “One-stop-shops for energy renovations of buildings” report is the exploratory review of case studies of past and current one-stop-shops (OSS) with a primary focus on the EU Member States. One-stop-shops are transparent and accessible advisory tools from the client perspective and new, innovative business models from the supplier perspective.

MOEEBIUS project faces the challenge of reducing energy consumption in the building sector, based on modelling optimization of energy efficiency in buildings for urban sustainability. Project’s ambition was to  elaborate products and services that will enable the minimization of the 'performance gap' and promote customer confidence in the attractiveness of diverse energy efficiency business models and contracts, such as Energy Performance Contracting (EPC).

To successfully accelerate the transition to a low-carbon society and economy more emphasis should be on motivating people and increasing their awareness leading to an energy efficient building use.   The aim of MOBISTYLE (a 42-months European project funded under Horizon 2020) is to motivate behavioural change by raising consumer awareness through a provision of attractive personalized information on user’s energy use, indoor environment and health, through information and communication technology (ICT) based services.

The project is part of the 2014-2015 Programme of Energy Renovation of Public Sector Buildings, adopted by the Croatian Government in 2013. This Programme has generated 57 public procurement procedures for the provision of EPC, 21 signed contracts for 68 buildings (total floor area: 225.000 m2 ), and € 125 million of total investment, for 70 million kWh of expected energy savings.
