Tomorrow´s SmartHome
Smart home systems and technologies are becoming increasingly prevalent in our homes.  As we move towards a digital society these systems will become a standard feature in our homes and occupants' expectations of what these systems can deliver will increase. Individual systems exist that can control and monitor many aspects of our homes including heating, water, lighting, healthcare and entertainment. Smart systems are often stand-alone and do not integrate with other systems, this limits the functionality of the systems and does not unlock the full benefits of smart home systems.

The panel of Judges, chaired by Sunand Prasad PPRIBA, Senior Partner Penoyre & Prasad LLP, have selected a shortlist of 6 designs which are now open for your vote until midnight on August 13 2012.  You can vote through the Sunday Times website here:  www.thesundaytimes.co.uk/homeawards

SHORTLISTED

• Street Smart: (White arkitekteran) is an off-site manufactured home that can be controlled by a single system which is accessible both in and out of the house.
• S,M,L home:  (Pentan Partnership) is made up of five shipping containers stacked, insulated and clad in zinc and timber, and incorporates a range of controls.
• The Stromal House:  (Deverill-Jenkins) has photovoltaic cladding and a glazed, energy-generating staircase.  The Energy use, appliances, security and ventilation are all controlled through a single system.
• Smart House: Responsive House:  (Architect 8) uses panelised construction and incorporates such features as automated shutters.
• Our House:  (MORE design) has solar thermal panels, grey water recycling and a smartphone-run home control system.
• Flexi Home:  (Meadowcroft Griffin) is a zero carbon home with solar panels, a ground source heat pump and iPad-run home monitoring.
