The Student Switch Off (SSO) campaign is an inter-dormitory energy-saving competition that has been running in the United Kingdom since 2006. Over the academic years 2014-15 and 2015-16 the campaign was adapted and run in Lithuania, Greece, Sweden and Cyprus in the frame of the IEE project SAVES. Through a series of engagement activities and instruments students were enabled, empowered and motivated to save energy in their dormitories by adopting specific actions such as switching off appliances when not in use.
The SAVES project was completed in March 2017 but SAVES2, a H2020 project, will continue to build on it and expand in other countries.
As part of the recent European Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (ECEEE) summer study conference in France, a SAVES poster - an infographic illustrating the results and impact over the last two years -was presented. SAVES was successful in winning Best Display in the 'most innovative or promising project' category.
More about the engagement activities and tools utilised, the impact that the campaign has had on students, and the key successes and challenges at project level and at country level of SAVES can be found here.
