Mission Innovation Champions is a new programme to celebrate innovative individuals who are accelerating the clean energy revolution. This programme will recognize exceptional researchers and innovators who are developing novel ways of making energy cleaner, cheaper, and more reliable and using it more efficiently. The programme will call worldwide attention to emerging innovators from across the globe.
One Champion from each Mission Innovation member country participating in the MI Champions Programme will be selected. Eligible countries are as follows: Australia, Austria, Canada, China, Denmark, European Commission (on behalf of the European Union), Finland, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Republic of Korea, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, and the United Arab Emirates.
One Champion for the European Commission (on behalf of the European Union) will be selected, this being from a European Union country that is not an individual member of Mission Innovation (eligible countries: Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Spain).
The Champions programme officially launched on 22 May 2018, at the third Mission Innovation ministerial meeting in Malmö, Sweden.
The Champions will be introduced at the fourth Mission Innovation ministerial meeting in Vancouver, Canada, in May 2019.
