Energy poverty is one of the most pressing issues in Central and Eastern Europe. By addressing energy efficient retrofitting of multi-unit apartment buildings, the REELIH (residential energy efficiency for low income households) project is working to promote an innovative approach to reduce energy poverty.

The European Commission is organizing a public conference on Financing Energy Efficiency in the Baltic States, in partnership with the Latvian government, on 11 November 2016 in Riga (Latvia) from 9.00 to 15.30.
The event aims to share best practices from the region on how energy efficiency can be financed through private funds and innovative financing instruments, notably in the building and industry sectors. Speakers will focus on practical experiences in developing and structuring investment programmes, which will then be discussed with the different stakeholders.

6,000 houses from Riga should benefit from funding for energy renovation
The municipality of Riga has created a revolving fund linked to a soft loan scheme which will provide loans at a low interest rate destined for citizens and non-profit organizations in order to increase energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy and to reduce energy consumption.
