  The international conference ‘Smart Sustainable Cities 2017 – Viable Solutions’ (SSC2017) will take place on 14 June 2017 in Utrecht, the Netherlands. During the conference, over 200 young potentials and industrial, educational & governmental organisations from all over Europe will  exchange ideas about the smart sustainable city of the future. The conference offers a stage for brand, project or business exposure, business networking opportunities, as well as access to information, education and much more.

People spend up to 90% of their lives indoors, so it is perhaps not surprising that the quality of the environment created has a significant impact on their health and well-being. What is perhaps even more surprising is that the indoor air quality of some buildings, including modern low energy buildings, has been shown to be poorer than urban outdoor air quality.

A range of breakthrough eco-building solutions which tackle the emerging problem of indoor air quality have been presented by the ECO-SEE project at the Ecobuild construction fair in London.   The solutions include novel insulation, coating and panel products which improve air quality by passively regulating humidity, capturing VOCs, and removing indoor organic pollutants through photocatalysis. External and internal wall panels have also been developed, in addition to design tools to support end users.

NeZeR (Near Zero Energy Renovations) ofwel Bijna EnergieNeutrale Renovaties en de inzet van duurzame energiebronnen zijn nog steeds een uitdaging in Nederland, ondanks beschikbare technologieën. In de Nederlandse woningbouwsector is een groot potentieel voor energie-efficiëntie geïdentificeerd door de Rijksoverheid. De uniformiteit van de woningen, gebouwd in de na-oorlogse periode, geeft de mogelijkheid om bijna energieneutrale renovaties op een systematische manier op te schalen.
