Die österreichische Energieagentur hat einen Schulwettbewerb zu den Themen erneuerbare Energie, neue Technologien und Energieeffizienz gestartet. Während die Volksschüler bei einem Mal- und Zeichenwettbewerb ihr Haus der Zukunft kreieren, gestalten die Schüler der Unter- und Oberstufe ihre eigene Zeitung zu den genannten Themen. Der letzte Abgabetermin ist der 7. April 2017, die Gewinner werden am  17. Mai 2017 im Rahmen der 40-Jahres-Feier der Österreichischen Energieagentur prämiert.

Il 21 gennaio 2017, la città di Essen, in Germania diventa ufficialmente la Capitale Verde Europea per il 2017. L'ufficiale di "Capitale Verde Europea" Cerimonia di Consegna, Karmenu Vella, Commissario per l'Ambiente, gli Affari Marittimi e la Pesca, consegnerà il titolo per il 2017 da Lubiana a Essen.

On 1 December 2016, the fourth annual C40 Cities Award Ceremony took place in Mexico City. The 2016 C40 Cities Awards aimed to share highly replicable ‘best practices’ across cities and draw attention to outstanding performances that have achieved a high level of environmental success in a challenging context. The ceremony was held on the sidelines of  C40 Mayors Summit.

On 27 October 2016, the winners of the European Business Awards for the Environment 2016-17 were announced at a ceremony in Tallinn, Estonia. The awards recognise companies in the EU and candidate countries, from all sectors that combine competitiveness with respect for the environment in the following categories: management, product and services, process innovation, business and biodiversity, and international business cooperation.

Following the successful participation of two Belgian candidates (Dupuis Publishers and TPALM, both medalist) in its 2nd edition, the CUBE 2020 contest for a better use in efficient buildings moves forward: the 3rd edition will start on January, 1st 2017 with a new year of competition between commercial buildings (candidates from any European country can apply).

15 Climate Stars given to cities and regions in 7 countries   On 6 October 2016, in Lower Austria’s Grafenegg Castle, 15 municipalities, regions and associations of local authorities from seven European countries were awarded with a Climate Star for their outstanding climate action initiatives. The local projects cover a wide range of topics, from energy and mobility to food systems and sustainable procurement up to climate justice and climate change adaptation.
