The EU Sustainable Energy Awards Ceremony will take place on 14 June 2016 in Brussels, Belgium, in the context of the EU Sustainable Energy Week 2016 (EUSEW 2016) events and activities.   Nine nominees are competing for an Award in the following categories:

The Swiss enterprise ECOCELL has received the renowned Green Tec Award in the category “Building and Living”. ECOCELL is a building system that consists mainly of waste-paper and does not include concrete, grit or sand. The system is suitable for the accommodation of refugees and emergency relief. It allows for an earthquake-proof erection of accommodations. The award ceremony took place in the German Building Ministry. Federal undersecretary of state Adler pointed out that the system is resource efficient and can be quickly and cost-efficiently assembled.

Das schweizerische Unternehmen ECOCELL AG hat am 12.5.2016 den renommierten Green Tec Award in der Kategorie „Bauen und Wohnen“ erhalten. ECOCELL hat ein überwiegend aus Altpapier bestehendes Bausystem entwickelt, das auf Beton, Kies und Sand verzichtet. Das System ist geeignet für die Unterbringung von Flüchtlingen und die Katastrophenhilfe. Es ermöglicht einen erdbebensicheren Aufbau von Unterkünften. Der Preis wurde im deutschen Bundesbauministerium verliehen.

The German energy agency dena is rewarding home owners for their interesting energy-efficient refurbishment stories. The “Refurbishment Heroes” competition is running until 29 February 2016 and includes awards of over € 20,000 for the winners. Applications and eligibility requirements are available at www.sanierungshelden.de. Topics and content of the stories are not limited, however they have to be true and linked to energy-efficient refurbishment.

Die Deutsche Energie-Agentur dena such nach Gebäudeeigentümer, die interessante Geschichten rund um die energetische Gebäudesanierung zu erzählen haben. Der Wettbewerb läuft noch bis 29. Februar 2016 und beinhaltet Preisgelder von insgesamt mehr als 20.000 €. Bewerbungen können unter www.sanierungshelden.de eingereicht werden. Dort sind auch die Teilnahmebedingungen einzusehen. Die Themen und Inhalte der Geschichten sind nicht begrenzt.

At this year’s European Energy Service Award (EESA) ceremony held in Berlin on 10 November, the West London Alliance, which forms part of a group of London boroughs, has won one of the five prizes.Within the context of an Energy Performance Contracting (EPC) Project, energy and carbon dioxide savings were achieved in 21 buildings.

The 2015 Solar Decathlon will take place in Orange County Great Park in Irvine, California and will open on October 8. Sixteen student teams including more than 2000 students from 27 universities will assemble their highly energy-efficient solar powered houses and present them to the jury and the public. The zero-energy homes compete in affordability, attractiveness and comfortability as well as in energy efficiency and sustainability.

FEDARENE, the European Federation of Agencies and Regions for Energy and the Environment, handed over the trophy of the first edition of its Roger Léron Award on the evening of 16 June 2015 at the magnificent Palace of the Academies in Brussels. The Roger Léron Award celebrates outstanding contributions to the development of sustainable energy in the EU at the regional and/or local levels. It aims to acknowledge persistency, positive attitude, a proactive approach and successful implementation of various projects.
