This Victorian property in the centre of Chorlton had spent many years serving as 5 apartments. During this time many original features had been lost. The proposal is to return to the original use of two semi-detached homes and reinstate the beautiful original façade.

This report analyses the definition of a Zero Carbon building in the UK and compares national Building Regulations in Zero Carbon building with a Passivhaus Classic and renewables. The report highlights problems such as the performance gap, seasonal energy storage, and limits to deploying renewable energy. It sproposes Passivhaus as a feasible way to achieve Zero Carbon without massive renewable energy expansion coupled with a significant investment in grid capacity.

The project Next-Buildings (Next Zero Energy Buildings at lowest Cost by using Competitive Sustainable Technology), funded by the 7th Framework Programme of the European Union, is about the demonstration of very low energy buildings. This course, which will be realised from 6 to 14 November 2017 in Darmstadt, Germany, is aimed at all building professionals, including architects, engineers, contractors and builders, who are interested in training in the field of energy-efficient & cost-optimal buildings designing. During the course, they will learn from experts at the Passive House Institute, everything from how to define the thermal envelope to how to overcome frequent planning and construction challenges. The course consists of a 3-day e-learning module and 7 days of in-class training.
