Energy efficient investments to help the EU meet its near (2020) and long (2050) term commitments will flow first into replicable public building segments where they will have high impact. Schools are an ideal candidate for the implementation of energy management programs and energy efficiency retrofits. On the leading edge of this trend, VERYSchool will provide a complete set of practical and "how to" knowledge, as well as cutting edge ICT hardware and software technologies to optimise building performance.

The VERYSchool project will integrate smart LED lighting, smart metering, BEMS, energy simulation and energy action management software into a platform called the "Energy Action Navigator" and demonstrate it in four Pilot locations scattered in Europe. This integrated platform and environment will be customised and dedicated to schools. It will provide a methodology, approach, and tool for school decision makers, technicians, and ICT professionals alike to collectively address the issue of energy savings in schools. The proposition is because the school building segment is unique in the building domain since it has specific typologies, users and usage patterns, energy infrastructures, energy uses and functions.

The research leading to these results has received funding from the European Community under ICT Policy Support Programme(ICT PSP)
in one of the three specific programmes of The Competitiveness and Innovation framework Programme (CIP).
