Ready for Retrofit: New £8m scheme gives major boost to the UK's South West green economy

A new initiative has been launched on 20 June 2012 in the South West of England by the Energy Saving Trust, Regen SW, social housing providers and local authority partners. The initiative – Ready for Retrofit – will give a substantial boost to the energy efficiency and micro-generation sector in the South West. The £8m Ready for Retrofit programme will help local businesses prepare for the eco-refurbishment of tens of thousands of homes by 2020 and take advantage of the huge opportunities presented by Government initiatives including the Green Deal, Feed-in Tariff, Renewable Heat Incentive and Energy Company Obligation.
  • Green industries to drive £2.75 billion sales and 2,000 jobs by 2020
  • South West set to be ahead in green industry race

The programme will create a new industry and a sustainable market in the South West capable of delivering over £2.75 billion sales, over £1 billion Gross Value Added (GVA) and potentially employing more than 2,000 people between now and 2020.

Ready for Retrofit is helping to kick-start the massive eco-refurbishment task ahead by investing more than £6.5m in energy efficiency and micro-generation measures for social housing. Local businesses will be supported to grow and develop new quality products and services through improved staff development, technical know-how and targeted marketing. The scheme will also help local trades people to improve their energy-efficiency knowledge so they can identify energy savings for their customers.
