The Energy Commission approves the proposed European Directive on Energy Efficiency

The agreement on the proposed EU directive on energy efficiency defined by the Parliament and the Council on June 13 was approved by the European Energy Commission.  The Directive will introduce mandatory measures, such as the renovation of public buildings and energy conservation programs for utilities.

The rapporteur, Claude Turmes (Greens / EFA, LU), who led the negotiations, said on this subject: "the new directive on energy efficiency dedicates in a legal framework the efficiency goal of 20% and provides binding measures, an important way to fill the current gap EU faces in the realization of its commitment to reduce energy consumption by 20% by 2020.
