UNEP Sustainable Building & Climate Initiative's membership elects new Board of Directors

UNEP's Sustainable Building & Climate change initiative works to promote sustainable building practices worldwide. Launched in 2006 by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), the Sustainable Buildings and Climate Initiative (SBCI), formerly Sustainable Buildings and Construction Initiative, aims to respond to the challenges and needs of stakeholders in the building industry. UNEP-SBCI works to promote sustainable building practices worldwide. This is a joint effort with key stakeholders in this sector (from industry, business, governments, local authorities, including research, academia, as well as the civil society, NGOs and experts). The SBCI Board is a guidance council representing SBCI members. The seven Board members are elected by SBCI members at the Annual Meeting, and stay in position for a period of one year. The Board’s mission is to define the work program on focus areas, monitor progress, and advise the Secretariat on the management and development of the Initiative. The new Board of directors was elected at UNEP-SBCI last AGM, it is composed go: - Birgitte Holter, Strategyand Brand Management Hydro Building Systems - Maria Atkinson Global Head of Sustainability, Lend Lease Corporation - Constant van Aerschot Director, Lafarge - Marcelo Takaoka President, Brazilian Sustainable Building Council - Rick Fedrizzi President, CEO and co- founder, US Green Building Council - Jane Henley, CEO World GBC - Alfonso Ponce, CSTB

The new Board of UNEP-SBCI is composed of the following people:

  • Maria Atkinson - Global Head of Sustainability for Lend Lease. Maria Atkinson is the New Chair.
  • S. Richard Fedrizzi - President, CEO and Founding Chair U.S. Green Building Council.
  • Marcelo Vespoli Takaoka - Chairman, Brazilian Sustainable Building Council.
  • Whatt Bin Choo - Executive Director, Services. Building and Construction Authority, Singapore.
  • Jane Henley - Chief Executive Officer. World Green Building Council.
  • Alfonso Ponce on behalf of CSTB.
