I am Dr.-Ing. Kamugisha Byabato, originally from Tanzania and currently resident in Dortmund, Germany. I have taught "Building Technology", "Building Services" to students of Architecture, Civil and Environmental Engineering for the past 18 years. My current area of special interest is "Energy and the Building Environment". I obtained my Dr.-Ing. degree at TU-Dortmund, Germany (Chair of Environmental Architecture, under Prof. Dr.-Ing. Helmut Mueller). My doctoral thesis title is "Photovoltaics in Government Services in Rural Areas of Tropical Developing Countries with special consideration of East Africa and Tanzania in Particular". Among the most interesting projects I worked in was PREA (Pomoting Renewable Enery in Africa) which was an international project involving 4 European Universities, 4 African Universities and the International Solar Energy Society (ISES). It was jointly funded by the EU Intelligent Energy Program under COOPENER, the German Academic Exchange Serves (DAAD) and the involved organisations (i.e. Universities and ISES). Before working in academics I worked as a Mining Engineer for 8 years after University training in in Russia and France. (Leningrad Plehanov Mining Institute, CESTEMIN Ecole des Mines de Nancy).
I speak English, French, German, Russian, Kiswahili (Swahili / Suaheli), Kinyarwanda and Ruhaya, my mothertongue, traditionally spoken in NW Tanzania and similar to many languages in the W & SW Uganda and Great lakes region of Eastern Africa.
