NZEB - Near Zero-Energy Buildings

The benefits of the analysis at the settlement level arise not only from the larger scale compared to single buildings, but also, importantly, from looking at a system of houses with their interactions. This means, for instance, cost reduction through the deployment of renewable energy technologies at the settlement level instead of individually in each building.

In the ZERO-PLUS project report “Market analysis of trends in the construction of residential highly energy performing buildings” a significant amount of information on barriers and drivers for the construction of highly energy efficient buildings, and for renovation programmes at the district or settlement level that improve the energy efficiency of existing buildings has been collected and reported.

The training course for Municipalities’ technicians took place in three sessions;  28 February, 14 March and 25 April 2017.   The capacity building course has had the objective of transmitting the knowledge to promote the design of nZEB and enable the implementation of the Directive of Energy Efficiency in Buildings of the municipalities in Spain.    Three sessions: 1. Affordable and adaptable public buildings through energy efficient retrofitting. 28 February 2017

The Horizon 2020 funded project AZEB (Affordable Zero Energy Buildings) aims to achieve significant construction and lifecycle cost reductions of new NZEB’s through integral process optimisation in all construction phases. Optimising construction processes to fully integrate available solutions in the areas of process, technology and contracting is seen as the largest potential in lifecycle cost reduction. The project will create a common methodology for cost effective NZEB.   The main steps of the AZEB project are to:

Natural Ventilation in a Smart Building can remarkably reduce cooling energy demand in temperate climates—to Zero for almost the entire year.   The first part of this webinar will focus on the design and performance of natural ventilation systems through case studies of different Zero-Net-Energy (ZNE) buildings in California that aggressively adopted this design strategy, and used conventional systems. The webinar will also elaborate on what practical problems were encountered and the outcomes—i.e., what were the “lessons learned”.
