PCM containing indoor plaster for thermal comfort and energy saving in buildings

This paper studies an innovative plaster for indoor use that incorporates phase change materials in its composition. Thermal and mechanical properties of the developed material are presented in the paper. Thermal simulations were performed to study the optimal distribution of this material inside the building. These simulations were validated by the construction of two real size concrete cubicles, using in one of them the PCM containing material. The results showed that the new plaster is effective to diminish the thermal oscillations inside the buildings and reduce the energy needs up to a 10-15 % in heating and a 30% in cooling.
