Lighting for people, energy efficiency and architecture - an overview of lighting requirements and design
Lighting needs to be effective in terms of performance, energy efficiency, and as an integral part of the architecture. Lighting, therefore, needs to be considered within the context of the total building design. Written primarily for designers and installers of lighting, this Guide provides an overview of lighting design, touching on the issues that need to be addressed for lighting requirements in new and refurbished buildings. The Guide advocates a holistic approach to lighting design, describing the elements of a design framework: visual function; visual amenity; architectural integration; lighting and energy efficiency; installation maintenance; and costs (capital and operational).
